At 6 years old, he is not going to be able to even see that he's in a bad habit. As the parent, it is going to be your daily diligence in applying a stop nail biting cream or solution, and doing it every day, including after hand washing. As well, it is going to be up to you to decide why he is biting his nails (is it habit? Nervousness? Stress?) and you will have to find him a positive habit to replace the negative habit. Even more diffucult, you are going to have to find a way to stay positive about this change and not have it seem like nagging or a punishment. Good luck! How to stop nail bitting??For a 6years old child that cant stop himself from bitting his finger nails?
there are product called ';bitter apple'; that you can brush on the nail. When he bites his nail, he will get bitter taste. I heard it helps. My son who is 7 also has problem bitting and I am thinking about using it. Hope it works!
Whats so bad about nail biting anyways.

But to answer your question, the most rational way to solve the problem is to put tape over his little nails. It might work, I dont know.
good luck is all i gotta say i started around the same time about 5/6 and here i sit 15 years later still bitting.....so yeah like i said Good Luck
but some jalapenos on his finger and see if he bits them then
dip his nails in something hes allergic to
well what i do is just bite on my nail but dont bite it off.....
I've had the horrible habit for far too long, and nothing has helped me (accept for keeping acrylic nails on, so I'm unable to bite). I suggest getting this stuff from the grocery store that your put on his nails, and it gives the nails a very nasty taste, and he won't want to bite them. http://www.stopbitingnails.com/
rub his fingers w. a terrible taste, like chili peppers. He wont want to stick his fingers in his mouth any more.
I used to have that problem, dipping my fingers in tobassco sauce, or rubbing them on a pepper seemed to do the trick.

Make sure she doesnt rub her eyes though.

For something a bit safer, get something that tastes horrible and dip her fingers in that. Make sure it's something thats not disgusting or sticky, because your not suppose to wash it off. Or use nail polish remover on her fingernails, it tastes horrible.
wear gloves when possible, stick his fingers in vinegar or something he doesnt like, reward him when you see progress
I was the same ezact way they is ointment called no bite its taste like booty but you do it for 2 weeks then he will be out of the phase
you can try something that tastes bad but more often than not it will hurt sore sensitive fingers, not to mention if they get it in their eyes.

Try getting him a ';fun'; pair of ';magic'; gloves that he can wear at home. That will eliminate biting and maybe help get him out of the habit.

You can also try bandaids or tape for a little while each day

Another option is rewards or help him clip his nails and show him how to do it so he can do it on his own safely

Try finding out when he bites his nails, such as in the morning or doing a particular activity like homework. Stress might be causing him to do it. If that is the case have him take little breaks from what he is doing.
